E521 - can't write video DVD
Another set of issues with DVD on an E521 ...
I have a Dell Dimension E521, running Windows XP Media Centre Edition. Its only a few weeks old and is as delivered, minus some of the Dell pre-installed junk, plus all Windows updates including WMP 11; it still has the Dell pre-installed Sonic/Roxio DVD/CD support including MyDVD LE.
The problems first came to light when I first tried to burn a TV show recorded using Media Centre as a Video DVD - it failed.
I have since applied the Sonic/Roxio patches as per the sticky above but the situation is not much improved:
- With Media Centre I can right-click the TV recording, select Create CD/DVD, it asks that I insert the media, it whirs, appears to accept the media format the data and write the media before reporting that the operation failed.
- MyDVD LE (6.1.6) behaves similarly. It goes away formatting stuff and comes back with the error:
Device Error - Sense Code (4 08 00) - Logical Unit Communicate Failure - General 2130970624
and ejects the DVD ... - If I ask it to burn the project to disk, it appears to do so successfully - i.e. it claims to have finished successfully but I can't do anything useful with the product.
- I can burn data to the DVDs I have which tends to suggest that the drive and media are 'OK'. The DVDs are Sony DVD-RW. Using the pre-installed Roxio DLA software I can copy files to DVD and Make Compatible etc ...
I noticed that another poster suggested trying to use PIO rather than DMA to write the DVD ... this resulted in MyDVD LE claiming to have successfully written the DVD but I am unable to read back on the same drive (let alone any other).
Any suggestions as to a next step?
