Erasing CD_rw disk with EasyCD creator 4

When I try to erase a CD-rw disk formatted for DirectCD the erase window appears but the start button is grayed out.  This used to work but now does not.  All other functions in EasyCD creator and DirectCD work fine. No problems erasing a disk in any other format.  Four requests for E-mail Tech help from Dell have resulted in canned answers that do not address this problem.
