Erasing hard drive.
I have a Dimension 8300 running Windows XP Professional. I need to completely erase my hard drive, so System Restore isn't an option. I've tried running my ResourceCD, but after I get past the hddutil/clean/ and try clean1k... It doesn't work. (By the way, that is what I was told to do.) Any help will be appreciated.

When you reinstall Windows XP you are given the choice to partition and format the hard drive, this will erase all the data from it.

On most Dells . . you hit del as soon as it starts the POST . . if del does not do it, it should say down at the bottom : Hit "something" to enter Setup" . . from there navigate to where it has the boot sequence and set first boot to CD . . second to HDD
When it boots from the CD, you will get the full set of options to delete -partitions, set up new partitions, format and install XP.
Hope this helps . . . wrs

I tried to reinstall Windows XP, and I was not given the choice to partition or format the hard drive. Is there another way?

The following article has instructions for install XP in a Dell computer. Paragraphs 7 to 11 has the details of partitioning and formating the hard drive. !'ve found that printing a copy of them for a reference can help
