Error 0147, Optical drive-BIST spindle test failure

My laptop started acting funny during boot up, and now all the sudden it will not even do that.  I ran a diagnostic test and it gave me a Optical drive-BIST spindle test faiure.  All I can find out about this error is it is something to do with the DVD drive.  Any suggestion on how to fix this problem?  Thanks in advance because any info is better than what I have now.

Hi, Brandon: Your optical drive is on the fritz. It's not likely to be related to your system boot failure. Please post the model number. Are you seeing any light patterns (the NUM, CAP, and SCROLL lights) that indicate a problem?
