Error Code 0F00:0244 and Error Code 0F00:1A44

I have checked into a few messages regarding these error codes and have come to the conclusion that my hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced. I can deal with the replacement hassle and cost, but is there any way to salvage my files for placement onto my new hard drive?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It may or may not be able to salvage things; you can only try.

It is a dimension desktop running on XP. Not sure which model of dimension. Can find that out though.

Thanks!

I have the same error message. I rarely use my computer. Did Dell issue a recall on this hard drive. It seems like a lot of people are experiencing the same problem.
Also, can I upgrade my hard drive to a 160 GB hard drive? Circuit city has a great price for their 160 GB hard drive by the same manufacture.

What model system is it?

No, there have been no recalls on Dimension system hard drives.

If it is possible to salvage my files with this error, how do I go about trying the salvage operation?

Yes, you can use a 160GB HD in an D-2400 using XP with SP1 or SP2.   Any brand of EIDE hard drive, except Maxtor, should be fine.

Does the hard drive spin?  If so, then install the rerplacement HD, reinstall windows, drivers, applications and all the updates and when it's operating to your satisfaction. Then temporarily install the old drive as the slave and see if you can transfer the data you require to the new primary hard drive, applications and programs cannot be transfers, they must be reinstalled. After this, remove the old hard drive.

Time to review your backup policies.
