error code 2000-0141

Hello all,

I have a Dell Studio D540   Quad core 06600  2.4ghz   1066mhz FSB

Vista Home Prem

8 gb  800mhz   DDR2

750 GB  7200RPM Serial

For some strange reason, I got this error code when I attempted to power up my Computer.   It starts to boot, and I end up with an error code that says my Hard Disk is not detected.  I treat this machine with 'kid gloves', and can't for the life of me figure out what happened.  I would appreciate any and all info as to how to get my computer back up and running.

Thank you,

Bill

The hard drive has failed - replace it, reload everything and you'll be all set.

Hello EJN63,

.....Is that your FINAL answer?.....and

Does this mean I am unable to recover anything from  the failed HD?

Thank you,

Bill

You could remove the hard drive, then use an USB adaptor similar to THIS and attach the hard drive to a USB port of a working computer and see if you can transfer the files and folders to it.

Note: Only data files can be transfered, any applications, utlities and programs, need to be reinstalled from their CD's, or from the publisher's website.

Hi Bev,

Thanks for the option(s). The Pro's and Con's in the reviews read like a Horror story..........alot of fried HD's while trying to use this device. Is it worth it......or can I rely on the "Geek Squad" at  Best Buy for instance?   I really hate to lose all I have on the HD.

Thanks,

Bill

It's your call of course, but expect that even a basic recovery attempt from a technician at Best Buy, etc. will run $300 or more.

Bill.

Don't know about the *Geek Squad*, as I keep away from Best Buy, but I have used the adaptor I posted about, to transfer and recover files and folders from hard drives that are still usable, without any problems.

Bill.

Good luck, if the hard drive can still be read, you should be fine.
