Error while installing driver for DW316 "This software can only be installed on specify system"
My DW316 was previously working OK on my Dell XPS16 9640 running Windows 11 Home
Last week, when plugging into one of the USB ports, a message appeared stating that USB device was not recognised.
I have tried updating the driver - no new driver available - and re-downloading and reinstalling the driver (right-click on setup.exe and Run as Administrator), but now get the message:
"This software can only be installed on specify system"
Nothing that I have read about this message seems to resolve the issue. Any ideas?

@MadJackMcMad
The Dell DW316 needs to be connected to the computer and be fully present before installing the software. The message you are receiving is vague, but because the software utilizes an OEM license, it checks to verify that it can only be installed with the presence of the DW316. After the software has been installed, it will work with other optical drives, regardless if the Dell DW316 is connected or not.
As for the drive not being recognized, have you tried using another USB port? Have you tried another USB cable?

This usually happens when Windows no longer detects the device correctly.
First, check Device Manager and see if the drive shows up as unknown or with an error.
Try uninstalling the device from Device Manager, unplugging it, rebooting, then plugging it back in.
Also, test a different USB port or cable if possible.
If the system does not recognize it at all, the driver installer will refuse to run.
