For Dimension 2350

Hi. From reading some other postings I know I need a different cable to allow for a second hard drive in the 2350. Can someone tell me exactly what kind of cable I need and If I can buy it at a local store or do I need to buy a special cable from Dell. I would prefer to buy one myself instead of waiting for delivery. I have brackets I can use so thats not a problem. I just need the cab;e.

Thanks for any info.

You need a 3 connector IDE cable. IYou can pick one up at any CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. These cables are not Dell proprietary.

Dell uses "Cable Select" you will find the C: drive is set to CS, if there's no label on the HD, showing the settings, then go to the maker's website ti find them.

Parallel-ATA 80-conductor Ultra ATA 66/100 cable same as the one shown here.

A hint, set the HD's jumpers to "cable Select"

Guess from reading your post, that you already know about the bracket to hold the HD.

You said "brackets".  Just to clarify, there is no where to mount a second drive without a bracket.  This isn't normal mounting hardware like rails, or a flat plate that mounts on the drive and then slides into the computer.  This is the cage where the drive goes.  Just wanted to make sure you understood what you need.

Thanks so mmuch for fast reply..off to buy it now. One last question though, the HD I am installing does not show a cable select jumper setting. Can I use the slave jumper instead?

Thanks again.
