Hard disc drive benchmarks
Those paying attention will have seen my recent queries regarding fitting larger HD to my e6400 and that I've narrowed choice to 2 drives: Seagate momentus 7200.3 and Western Digital Scorpio Black.
So been browsing web to help me decide, I came across this benchmarking website, maybe known to you but ...
linky is to the 2 drives mentioned but contains loads more.
In raw performance (read/write), the Seagate has better figures but what puzzles me is that the WD is significantly superior on application related benchmarks such as Windows XP start up, Database and FileServer I/O - so why would that be?
I am not familiar with those benchmarks.

The WD may have a more efficient algorithm for using the cache. WD's cache logic tends to be among the best.
That said, outside of using a benchmark program you're not going to see much real-world difference between the two drives.
