Hard Drive Compatibility C600 & C640
I want to be able to access the hard drive from my old C600 in my C-640. When I swap the drive it looks like it will start up on win 2000 but then I get a blue screen with a message to run checkdsk /f
The C640 operating system doesn't seem to recognize the C600 hard drive.
When it was in service, I had problems with the C600 and received error messages at startup. I don't know how to run checkdsk /f from this screen.
Is my C600 hard drive compatible with my C640?
Thanks

You won't be able to boot a drive built in a 640 on a 600 - the hardware differences are too great.

Could you possibly provide a link? I have a 1.44 floppy disk drive module but I don't think you mean that. I found something on eBay but I can't tell from the pic or the description if it is what you refer to.
If the external case is not too costly, it would be a perfect solution. I asked about an adaptor to read the drive at my local laptop shop but the idiot said it didn't exist...and that I could just swap drives.
>>>You may want a PCMCIA USB 2 card, as the onboard USB 1.1 is slow.<<<
I want to copy some old jpgs from the old drive (the main data/files was removed before I took the unit out of service) Will I be able to do this with the USB?
Thanks

is a plastic sleeve that goes over the drive so its not ugly.
If you have a CDOCK or CDOCKII you dont need a cable or the sleeve cuz you can put the floppy in the dock and boot the machine from there. The Hard drive media bay also fits into the dock and doesnt require a cable.
All the C series can use the same drives.
The cables are cheap the drives go for $20 or so and the plastic sleeve goes for $30 or so on ebay.

Dell part number 4T545. You cannot use CDROM OR HARD DRIVE with the floppy drive cable on parallel.

Here’s what I want to do….
(1) Access old C600 hard drive and copy some vintage irreplaceable photos to a floppy disk.
(2) Copy the photos to my working C640
(3) Re-format old hard drive and recycle it on eBay.
Here’s what I have
(1) USB 2 cable (runs to my printer/scanner.)
(2) Dell floppy drive
Please tell me what I need get to accomplish this. I want to do this at the minimum cost. There are only 20-30 jpgs. That I need. The important data was all copied before the notebook died.
