Hard Drive compatibility

Question

I am replacing my hard drive (Inspirion 2500).  The present one has those little teeth sticking out so that it will install in the proper slot.  The new one's teeth don't stick out.  Do I have the wrong drive or is there someway that I'm supposed to remove the front of the adaptor so that it will insert completely.  I hope this makes sense to someone.

You need to remove the adapter from the back of the original drive and place it over the pins on the new one.

Thank you for the replies to my message.  I took out the old drive from the adaptor and placed the new one in.  The problem lies where the pins do not stick out of the end of the adaptor so that when installed, the drive plus the adaptor will slide right in to the slot.  Maybe I have the wrong drive.  It is a 2-1/2' but the pins are different.  Any suggestions before I return the product?

What is the exact model number of the hard drive you're trying to install?

The adapter ejn63 noted is the pin/blade adapter for the electrical connector, not the drive carrier that holds the drive in the notebook chassis.
