Hard Drive Error Codes - Identify

Turned on my 8500 and got a problem with the hard drive. Ran the diagnostics and got these 2 error messages. Can somebody tell me what it specifically means?

IDE Disk - Read Test
Error Code: 0F00:0244
MSG: Uncorrectable Read Error

IDE Disk - Verify Test
Error Code: 0F00:1A44
MSG: Uncorrectable Data Error

Computer will not boot into windows anymore. I want to know if somebody can tell me what these oodes mean?? I plan on doing a format and reinstallation of windows xp to see if it can fix itself. If not, then I'll call Dell Support and get them to replace my hard drive. Just want to know what I'm getting myself into since I want to try and hook up my hard drvie to my desktop computer and pull some important data off of it.

Thanks for any help.

The drive has developed bad sectors.  It needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

I would not bother to reinstall XP at this point.  Attach it to a desktop and copy what you can soon - the drive may not be useable much longer.

Alright. Thank you for your information.

That's what I thought. Will go out and get an adapter to get all my data. Then contact Dell and get it replaced.

Thanks again.
