Hard drive failure?

I've had my my inspirion 6000 for about a week now  and its been working fine then just a few days ago  when I turned it on it says ...     Read failure on internal hard drive   No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot ,  F2 for setup utility     I was thinking of removing my hard drive but wont that void my warranty ?  and when i run the F12 diagnostics on it says   -start dst short test- test results:fail error code :1000-0146 msg :unit 0 : dst log contains previous error(s)     please help me im dieing without my computer any help would be greatly appreiciated.   and if any one has informtion on the warranty service please help!   reply asap please   thanks in advance...

The hard drive is dead - call Dell for a replacement.

Dot ain't no hard draav. Juz put dot xp cd into da freaking cd draav and run da chkdsk /r :smileysad:           :smileyvery-happy: Dying = Suffering so much as though one is about to die. My Dell Inspiron 8200 has the same failure during diagnostics but the hard drive is running fine, although it did crash once.  Scandisk does not find anything but still it fails every time I test it, my laptop is also having problems with the video, vertical lines showing up causing windows to crash.   Would this be a video card problem, or would a hard drive problem cause problems with the video display?
