Hard drive missing over 120 Gb......help...

Hi,

I've installed windows 2000 on a Dell 8300 with all drivers and the machine is working fine except that my harddrive is not showing up correctly.

I have two 250 gb hard drive.  I partitioned each hard drive into one 10gb partition and one 240 gb partition.  So in total, i have four partitions - my C: = 10 Gb; D: = 240 Gb; E: = 10 Gb (using to mirror C) and F: = 240 Gb (using to mirror D).

After i installed windows 2000, I went to to disk management to format/activate all the drives to use NTSF.  The problem is, my D drive is only 110Gb......where did the other 130gb went????????

When i go into BIOS, it shows that i do have two hard drive, each at 250 Gb.  When I got in to windows, it shows :

c: = 10gb (showing as 9.76 gb)

d: = 110 gb (showing as 112.35 gb)

e: = 10 gb (showing as 9.76 gb)

f: 240 gb (showing as 232.87 gb)

I understand that it is normal to have less space than the drive's actual spec.  It will be normal to have a 240 gb partition to show up as 220-230 gb.  But having a 240 gb partition showing up as 110 gb???????

What happened to my d drive??  there isn't any other unformatted space left....please help

Hi,

This should help

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;305098

You may find that an ATA control card such as the Promise Ultra TX 133  would allow you to use the full size of the hard disks. Another possibility could be that there is a BIOS limitation on your system for hard disk size.

Hello, I have a similar issue - I think.  I have a C drive that says I only have 220 GB and a Data drive with 931 GB. All of my software packages go to the C drive, so it is always at capacity. I don't know what to do. I can't move any software to my D drive. I have tried to to reinstall some of it, but the software either doesn't give me the option or doesn't allow me to download to the D drive.

I have uninstalled all unnecesary software packages which leaves me with about 5 essential systems. But everytime one of them updates, I have no room. All my personal files are on the cloud. I have 898 GB free space on my D drive, but can't do anything. Please help! I need specific instructions.
