Hard drive not detected

When I start up my computer and its loading the bios it says something like this

Port-00: No Device Detected

I don't know what happened to it  it randomly did this, and its been doing this for like a week (won't work)

its definately plugged in and powered so I don't know what could be wrong or if its just broken

if I get a new hard drive would it work or is there another reason why its not being detected or working?

If you have checked that both the power and data cables are properly connected to the hard drive and motherboard and the drive is still not recognized in the system setup.

It would seem that the hard drive is toast and needs to be replaced.

Always mention your model computer and operating system as well as any other info that's relevant like the external drive model in the main part of the post, not just in the tags or title.

Try removing the external drive and using another usb port if you are asking about an external hard drive.

Did you leave a non-bootable floppy or CD in one of the drives?

I presume you're talking about an internal hard drive. It could be either a hard drive failure, damage to the information in the boot sector or malware.

Reboot and press F2 before Windows starts to load to open BIOS setup

Look for the SATA 0 through 5 option. Open that option and see if the boot hard drive is listed correctly. Then look at the Boot Sequence option and make sure the hard drive is listed first. Be sure to save any changes you make before exiting setup.

Post back and tell us what you see in BIOS setup.

No, theres no floppy or cd in the drives

I have a dell xps 410, it came with a western digital 500 gb hard drive,  its not showing anything up under the port with the hard drive but detects the cd drive

I'm hoping it will be as easy as getting a new hard drive and putting it in and reinstalling an os
