support.dell.com, enter your service tag number, choose Documentation- Removing and Replacing Parts.

Any current 2.5" hard drive will work fine as a replacement.

If the drive is making repeated clicking noises and isn't seen by the system, it has failed - replace it, reinstall the operating system, and restore your backups.

The hard drive makes a clicking noise.  This is a Dell desktop that was running the Windows 2000 program.  Not sure of the model - it's not here with me.

Use a standard hard drive and not a 2.5" notebook hard drive if your system is truly a desktop.

More information would help - system model, OS, symptoms - does the BIOS not see the drive? Is the drive spinning?
