Hard drive space

I have a 30 GB hard drive. But when I select all the files on my C drive, my only drive, it shows that the files only take up 12.4 GB of space including hidden files. When I select the C drive, it says that I have 1.4 GB of space free. What happened to the rest of my hard drive space?

First off are you sure that your drive is 30GB as opposed to 20GB?
The usual culprits for hogging space is system restore, Norton protected recycle bin, your temporary Internet files. The other known suspects are the page file and the hibernation file.

Also if you are running Nortan Anti Virus the Scan log files can be huge sometimes.

Check the size of profile in Documents and settings. Just right click on the folder and click properties.
