HDD-Targeted Read & SMART Short Self Test error.

Hello everyone, I dismounted one of disk drive in my laptop and run 'chkdsk'. Now the Dell Support Center disk check finds 6 errors. Please read the message in the picture which advices to backup important files and replace your drive. What does it mean by that? Formate or re-partition the whole HDD? Please help me to find out the solution. My machine is Vostro 3400 Core i5 series laptop, Windows 7 64-bit ultimate. Thanks.

Thank you ejn63. I really appreciate it. Yes I'm under warranty and going to contact to Dell. Thanks again.

It means the hard drive is physically failing - replace it with a new one.

If you're under warranty, call Dell and they'll send a new drive.  If you're out of warranty, you can use any standard 2.5", 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive as a replacement.
