Help installing a dual layer SATA DVD drive
Just installed a dual layer SATA DVD drive in my Dimension 8300. It's the second of DVD drive installed. It came with the SATA cable which I attached to the motherboard's SATA connector.
But when I check for hardware installed I only see the original DVD drive.
I know power to it is okay since the drawer will open and close fine.
I also rechecked to make sure the SATA connector is plug into the DVD drive and the board firmly.
Do I need to install drivers?
Sorry, just learning about the internals of my computer.

Enter the System Setup (F2 at bootup) and access the
Drive Configuration. In there, set the SATA Secondary
drive to AUTO. Just a note, the 8300 is intended to
use IDE optical drives. The SATA channel is intended
for hard drives. See if enabling the channel will work.

Thanks for the help. Solved my problem.
But like you said, with the 8300 it's mainly designed for hard drives so it's not burning DVD's cleanly. Computer also stops during start up asking to bypass the drive because it's not recognized. However, on the Windows page it recognizes the drive. Go figure! I guess it's time to upgrade! LOL!
