How to retrieve data on burned CD?
A while back, I backed up my pictures by burning them onto CD-Rs. I take a lot of digital photos so I back them up every 700 MB's or so. One of the discs that I burned my pictures onto seems not to work. After loading the dis into the CD drive, nothing happens, no AutoPlay. In Explorer, I see that the CD is there, as I named it, "My Pictures 5." However, when I click to open the disc, the contents of the CD are blank. I right-click on the CD and view it's Properties...and the CD has no free space remaining (702 MB used). The weird thing is I have tried running a virus scan (Norton) on the CD and saw my picture folders under "Current Item" as Norton scan for viruses.
So my question is...is there any way I can retrieve the data on this disc? And how? I have some important pictures that I'd hate to lose. Thanks.

I have the same problem which seems to have occured after upgrading to xp. I have the same compter system as you. I have written to Dell and will let me know if there is a solution perhaps you will do the same

The most common is how the media was written!
If you have EasyCD put the media in the writer and use, Disk – Disk Info to find out what we are dealing with.
Lacking ECD, use Explorer – Properties and tell us about the File System.

Thanks for your reply. Do not have easy cd and cannot understand what you mean by explorer & file system. Can you explain. Thanks in anticipation.

Jim, thanks for the reply. I have done what you asked and here are the results...

The method in which I burned the CD is probably using the default settings with a Data project. I have burned many CDs using this method to back up my pictures and have not had this problem. Any help would be great. Thanks!

There is one no nonsense way to recover these and that is using ISOBuster. Check their site for a trial download.
I don't see any reason that this should happen but after you recover them, try session selector and see if it can import or close the existing session.

Glad you like the pictures Jim...made them just for you!
So I downloaded ISOBuster and was able to extract my picture files from the CD to my HD. Thanks for your help Jim, couldn't have done it without you.
