IDE device failed?
Hi there,
My 1 year-old Inspiron 8200 laptop has recently been making weird, almost grinding, noises and it is INCREDIBLY slow (it takes 30 minutes to open up MS Works). I put in the Drivers CD and ran the test, and it said:
A drive failed to perform the confidence test properly. This may indicate that the drive needs to be replaced. IDE Disk 0 = Device Self Test. Result Code: 0f00-013E Msg: A device failed. A possible failure is predicted by the drive's SMART status.
Anyone have any idea's what I need to do from here? Any thoughts would be helpful...I am desperate :-(
Thanks,
Brittany

Brittany,
First and foremost back up any data you can't live without - docs, email, etc. Your hard drive has been dying, and you are lucky enough it still runs to save data. If you are in warranty, call Dell and relate the error you got, the symptoms you had, and ask for a replacement drive. If not in warranty, look here and buy what you need with confidence.
