Imation 4x DVD+R media
I just purchased a spindle of (25) Imation DVD+R disks. The package is marked as 4x, and has a caution notice that a 'free firmware download' is available/required to prevent "damage" to a 2.4 drive. The Imation website points to a 'DVD+RW Alliance - Product Upgrade Portal at http://www.dvdrw.com/productupgradeportal/index_en.html. This link however does not list the NEC ND1100 drive.
I have previously successfully used Imation (and Fuji, Maxell) DVD+R media that was not marked 4x --presumably they were all 2.4x. (Memorex media, of all types, is mediocre at best.)
What is the consensus regarding using the Imation 4x media with this drive (since it is supposed to be able to use 4x DVD+R media)?
Does anyone really think that the media could actually damage the drive?

The NEC 1100 is a 4x burner. It will burn +R media at 4x and +RW media at 2.4x. There should be no problem.
