Insert CD, system freezes
I recently had both the DVD-ROM drive and hard drive replaced on my Dimension 4700C. The hard drive was the second to go, and since it's been replaced, inserting a CD-R or CD/RW results in a system freeze. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough. The system freezes, the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive, and I have to hold down the power button to shut it down. This has happened even with no programs running other than the usual Windows services.
System configuration: WinXP Pro, Pentium 4 3.20, 1 gb RAM. The drive reads and writes CDs, reads DVDs.
So far, I have tried uninstalling the DVD-ROM in Device Manager (and restarting) and increasing the size of the MFT (using Diskeeper). Neither has helped. Considering that two components have failed in just over a year, my appreciation of Dell products is minimal.
Any suggestions/solutions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi folder,
After re-installing the OS, do you recall if you installed the Intel Chipset Drivers? These are needed and may cause odd issues if overlooked.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
