"Insert disc in drive" message
The CD-ROM and CDRW drives in my Dimension 8400 do not work anymore. I get the message to "insert disc in drive..." even though I have inserted a disc. Reinstalling devices and IDE controllers did not help. Help?

Hi Bamilton,
You have run a couple of the standard steps, let try a few more.
Shut the system download; open the case and reseat (unplug/replug) the IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of each drive.
Turn the system on, did this help?
If no, then consider the articles on the filters and/or Clearing the NVRAM.
Please click on the CD/rW link in my post and scroll to Section 100, article 31; (Ignore the reference to Roxio); Section 11, article 2.
Best Regards!
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
