installing DVD burner

Tom, I realize that I have to physically remove the drive. Do I have to uninstall the software for the old drive before I install the new one? How would I go about that?

Hi Lezlie,

Tom is offline at this time.  Your answer is Yes.  Uninstall the device
in the Device Manager before you shutdown for the installation.  Then
upon start-up the new device will be recognized and the driver will be
installed by Windows.  Also, make sure the new drive is jumpered as Cable
Select (CSEL, CS) when you install it.

I agree with Steve. Keep the CD-RW and take out the CD-ROM.

I thought of that but the dvd burner is also a cd burner. I figured that I didn't need two. If I do this, should I rename the old burner to drive D:? I guess that doesn't really matter, does it? Except some of my software looks to drvie D: for the CD. What are my advantages for having 2 CD burners? My machine was ordered with 2 drives. The CD-ROM is drive D: and the CD-R is drive E:

One advantage in having 2 CD burners is that if one fails, you've got the other one to fall back on. And drive letters really don't mean anything...they can be reassigned (changed) or, more simlply, you can tell the burning software to look in E instead of D or vice-versa for the disc you want to burn.
