Installing Liteon DVD 163

I would like to install the Liteon DVD 163 I pulled from Dim 4600 in my daughters Dim 2400.  But it won't plug and play.  Keeps asking for a disc or where to look for install.   What shold I do?

Hi TA78,
The Lite-on should have its jumper set on Cable Select, so unless you changed it this should not be an issue.
Enter the BIOS and verify that the IDE channel on the 2400 is set to Auto and that both Drives are on, dell defaults the second drive to "Off".
You will also need to install DVD software in order to play DVD`s with the drive, example PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Best Regards

Sure enough the second drive was off. Turned it on tried to install.  No luck it keeps asking for software.  The Liteon folks say it uses the Windows default drivers. Even found the default window drivers put them on a flash drive and pointed it at the file.  I still get asked for the software.  Never have had this kind of problem  trying to install a simple peice of equipment.

Hi TA,

Lets see if the issue with the IDE controller drivers, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to section 20, articl3; this will reload them.

Best Regards
