Installing WinXP 64 Beta on precision 670, missing SCSI driver ADAPTEC U320 HostRAID controller
Hi All,
I try to install the 64 bits version of XP. I get the error message "Setup did not find any Hard disk drives" Now I think I need the 64 bit Adaptec U320 SCSI hostRAID controller. 's there someone who can tell me how I become the driver.

Same problem.
Dell is no help.
Adaptec is no help.
You know they must be working on them. Even beta's would be fine.
I wish DELL was more in touch with consumers.
The first company that works with consumers on a really close level will be awesome.
They could have beta ftp or something like that for us.
Oh well.

The drives come in two flavors: HostRAID & Non-RAID (Regular SCSI Controller)
File Name: u320_hostraid_win_v3.00.036.exe – HostRAID enabled
File Name: PH30S7B1.EXE - Non HostRAID
I installed the Windows XP 64 using the Non HostRAID, I wanted to run some SCSI diagnostics, and change SCSI parameters and the raid drives can sometimes produce unexpected results.
The pre-released 64 Windows XP is phenomenal, I have 4GB of RAM and I thing I will need 8GB to fully explore the potential.
So keep an eye on the kid’s piggy bank since the operating system will need a lot of RAM when installed.

The Adaptec embedded raid controller needs to be disabled; I tried to force it you work like a regular SCSI controller, but have been unsuccessful.
The only way I was able to install Windows XP x64 was with Adaptec 39320A-R SCSI card, and the Non-Raid driver:
File Name: PH30S7B1.EXE - Non HostRAID (Adaptec’s WebSite)
This is the only version that allows contains a x64 drivers. There are no Raid drives available at this time; based on what I was able to research.

It's always nice to know I'm not going crazy.
Since I don't have any extra Ultra320 cards lying around, I'll just have to wait until they release a driver, I guess.
You'd think they would have something soon, since that last batch of drivers came out about 5 months ago...

If 64 drives are not released in the interim, I am sure that windows certified x64 drivers will be incorporated in the retail version of Windows XP x64; to be released in a few months.

Dear all,
I tried downloading those SCSCI drivers mentioned for 64 bot from Adaptec site.
I'm getting the follwoing error:
"file\win64bit\intel64\adpu320.sys caused an enspecified error(18) at line 2335 in d:\srvrc1\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c"
Can anyone help me on this?I tried loading the drivers from more than one floppy also

You either need to install on a SATA environment, or have a SCSI card set as a SCSI controller and not as RAID. I have the Adaptec 39320A-R that can be configured as
HostRAID or regular SCSI controllers (Non-Raid) and Windows x64 will only install if the card is used as non-raid and you don’t need a drivers since the windows x64 has a native driver that installs during setup.

I'm running into the same issue with my PW670... Windows XP x64 will not install using the builtin SCSI adapter.
So I'm looking to buy a new card for it. The Adaptec 39320A-R card seems to be what is working but I'm unsure about the driver status for the card. Looking at the download section on Adaptecs website, it specfically states that the PH30S7B1.EXE driver package is for 32bit only. How come this will work with XP x64 if it is indeed a 32bit only driver ? I'd just like to make sure I buy the correct card to fix this issue...

I think there is a 64bit driver on the Adaptec site somewhere, but don't worry, you shouldn't need it.
When you install XP64, there is a driver already supplied by Microsoft (for the 39320A-R SCSI card), so you won't need the Adaptec version.

I discovered that none of the Adaptec 39320XX drivers work with Windows XP x64. The PH30S7B1.EXE file includes 64-bit driver, but I believe is to support AMD64 and not EMT64.
The actual Windows XP x64 installation disk comes with a native 64 bit driver that supports the 39320XX range of SCSI controller card.
Remember the 39320 series can be a Host Raid card or a regular SCSI controller card; make sure the Host Raid option is disabled via the Adaptec boot-up Bios before installing Windows XP x64. The installation disk will then recognize the card and install native driver during the installation process.

Still the card is a good investment, very versatile, more so than a regular Raid card; you can use the card either as a HostRaid or SCSI card or Raid/SCSI simultaneously over two channels.
I have the two channel card and one channel has HostRaid enabled and attached to an external raid aray with 4 drives; for SQL database creation. The other channel has HostRaid disabled and attached to internal SCSI drives I use for the operating systems, testing, and programs.
At any rate the retail x64 Windows version is only weeks away according to Microsoft, and I am sure they will have native raid controller drivers with the retail version.
