kernel_stack_inpage_error : faulty HD ?

Hi,

I have a Dimension 4700 with a Maxtor 6Y160MO HD. Recently I have been getting a continus clicking noise (possibly from the HD) followed by the blue screen. First time the error was "kernel_data_inpage_error" and the next time it was "kernel_stack_inpage_error". Does this point to faulty HD?. What is the best diagnostics tool to run?. I can't run the 90-90 diagnostics since I don't have a floppy.

I ran chkdsk /f but the problem hasn't gone away.

Thanks for any info/ideas.

Boot, press F12 and load the diagnostics from there.

Thanks. I have a warranty (not Dell). I'll get it replaced via that.

The drive is toast. Under warranty? Call Dell and get a replacement.

Out of warranty? You can choose any SATA drive you wish, but I would suggest making it a WD, Seagate, Samsung or Hitachi.

Thanks. I did that and got "Fail - Return code: 7".

What does this mean?.
