latitude csx - boot from external cd
Trying to install Windows 2000 on a Latitude CSx. This laptop has the media port for the external drives....but for whatever reason I can't get it to boot off of the CD. I've gone in and changed boot order....but it still won't recognize the cd. Any ideas?

I do not get the msg asking to press a key to boot from the CD. I am not using the Parallel Port cable, using the cable for the media connection on the right side of the laptop. I have looked on the Dell website to see if I could find the cable....thinking that was probably the cause of the problem. But I haven't been able to locate it (I haven't looked to hard maybe spent 15 minutes searching for it).
Are you getting the message "Press any key to boot from the CD"? If not, you may have a bad CDROM/Media Bay Cable/connection. I am assuming you are not using the Parallel Port cable to connect the CDROM, from your comments.

You can check the Media Bay cable by substituting your Floppy on it for the CDROM, as the floppy should work on that cable in addition to the Parallel Port Cable. If it works on the Parallel Port Cable and not on the Media Bay cable, then you need a new 10NRN cable. If it works on both, then look for a CDROM. Ebay usually has the cables if it turns out to be the problem. There are several on Ebay at present; just enter Dell Media Bay Cable in the Search Window on Ebay's home page, The CS/LS and others use the same cable; avoid the C400 version it is not the same
