Local Disk (C:) being treated as if it were a program file

using START > My Computer > when i click on Local Disk (C:) it goes to "Open With...Choose the program" as if it were trying to open a file! however, when using the ADDRESS toolbar at the top or the FOLDERS toolbar at the side, it lets me navigate thru to Local Disk (C:) as normal. i had a virus/trojan horse problem recently which has been controlled as far as possible with Norton. any help is much appreciated. thanks, david sutherland

Go to folder options>File types Tab

Highlight "drive" at the top of the list, then click the Advanced button, what does it say in the actions box?

Hit cancel, cancel, if you close the windows

it says "find" which is set as the default action

i tried to add a new action
browsing to explorer as the program of choice
but that didn't make any difference

additionally,
when trying to open normal document folders from inside My Computer
i'm experiencing sporadic problems
such as the SEARCH RESULTS window being displayed instead of opening the folder

i'm guessin its a VIRUS!!!

that wouldn't do anything, it would cause problems only if it was in the root folder.

i'm going to say VIRUS, MALWARE ... definitely some kind of registry corruption

yes, i agree, i had a W32.Gammima.AG virus recently and a Trojan Horse too.

i've used NORTON and HijackThis but still waiting on a response from the experts.

is there any other tool i can use to repair or recover the registry?
