Low disk space---windows drive

Hi, I repeatedly get the message "low on disk space". My pc tells me(on the message) that I have 10mb of disk space left. On "my computer" it says I have 36.2mb left. Any ideas on what to do to free this up. I have unistalled any programs that I do not use and every time i turn my pc back on the disk space is low. Thanks, Microlee

find the music folder, right click/properties to see the size of your music folder

first off, how big if your hdd, second run disk clean up, then defrag, then check how much space that might free up,

you should have a few gb free for xp to run properly

Try using Disk Cleanup, click the "More Options" tab and use the options listed, empty the "Recycle Bin", remove the temporary files.

Reduce the space System Restore takes up, open "System Properties" click the System Restore Tab and adjust the "Disk Space to Use" settings to 4% - 5%.  Then turn off system restore by checking the box, reboot the system, to erase the old system restore files. Uncheck "Turn Off System Restore" box and reboot the system.
Open System Restore and create restore point.

And think about installing a larger hard drive.

Hello, 111GB total. I will defrag & disk cleanup but I am doing this on a weekly basis. Are my music files the culprits?

What are you doing on that computer, lot of downloading? Because when most people get a lot of audio files and/or movie files they tend to get an external harddrive just for that stuff so the windows partition doesn't get used up.  I don't know how much web surfing you are doing, but try going to the internet options and deleting your temporary files, and then setting the cache at a limit so you aren't filling up gigs of space in temp internet files.

Good Luck~Justin~

O.K. I think I am getting to the bottom of this.  My recycle bin in Norton Protected. there are many deleted things in there, how do I delect them from it? It only gtives me an option to recover? ANy suggestions? As for the music I will either burn to cd & delete or store some other way. Thanks, microlee
