missing system 32 file- --need new hard drive??
Ive searched thru the internet and found that I might have a bad hard drive, or possibly bad parts that need repairing on the hard drive. since it shows that the file is missing or corrupt. Ive tried some of the suggestions to no avail.
So my question is:
can I buy an external hard drive install WinXp and run that and then get to my original hard drive. I have data I dont want to lose...so Im trying to figure a way I can do it. I dont want to take it to someone to back up my data for $100 if I can buy a new hard drive and do it myself..
OR
do I have to buy a new internal drive and install it and then somehow hook up my old drive to recv the files from it.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont even know what a converter is??? I have two dell desktops that I can use, but dont know how. Also have older desktop and old laptop.... thought about taking hard drive out of one of those and using it...but dont know if better to just buy external and go from there.
But will that work? If I buy an external and put winxp on it and then will I be able to get to my internal HD on my laptop??
thanks again

The hard drive is indeed in need of replacement.
An older desktop or notebook won't take your Serial ATA drive. Purchase something like the link below, mount the drive into it, and attach the drive to a working system by USB. See what you can recover.
Even if Windows won't boot, chances are good you'll be able to get some or all of your data back.

when you tell me your hard drive freezes when you install windows, that is not a good sign...i still would try to run the manufacturers diagnostic test on the drive. you can download the software from their site....

I did do the testing and got an error--
diagnostic testing and gave me Error code 0f00:0244 Msg Block 74786820 : uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.
someone said that the HD is bad. so I bought a new HD and I want to take out old one and get an external thing so I can hook it up to my desktop and get my files off of it..
went to best buy and they did have any.(the external cover)... going to look on line.

newegg.com has dozens of them - look under External Enclosures.

Before you throw away your hard, try repair with the win cd and in dos promt type: chkdsk /f /r
It will try to fix the error. You can also use this tool to check it: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
