NEC NR7900A - Not Working (1 more try)
Dim. 8200, WXP Home SP1, all updates current EXCEPT SP2 is NOT installed.
CD-RW(E:) DVD/CD-R _NEC NR7900A, Dr. Ver. 5.1.2535.0 date 7-1-2001 Roxio CD Creator 5 also on this drive.
Drive light is yellow. Insert/eject button works - tray slides in and out - light yellow. Apparently does not recognize a disk as get a popup saying insert disk. Do this, a small green disk appears in the popup window but nothing shows on screen and get the popup back saying insert disk. All settings are as set by Dell and shipped on computer. Go to Properties for this drive, it declares this device is working properly. Do not get error messages. Unknown when this problem happened. Discovered yesterday when trying to run a "cleaner" disk.
If more infor is needed, please advise (I'll try, I've typed this message 4 times now !). Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi BobnRobin,
Lets start with a driver issue; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, articles 2 & 1.
Section 12, article 3 from Dell-Stephen. Lastly, select Downloads under Product Support Tab above, enter information for your system and follow the links, Dell has a firmware update for this under "Removeable Media Storage Devices"
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Thanks, Predator.
Added your link to the list of "Places to go for good help". Kudos - your site is easily navigated and followable even for non-techies like me...
Thanks again,
