Need a higher capacity UPS

Please recommend a UPS to support an Optiplex GX300 with 500Mb RAM, a 17" Dell/Trinitron monitor, and an AVAYA data module (24W).

I need at least one hour backup time for this equipment.

Are you going to also buy a truck to hold the batterys in?

Apc Makes an Ups series called the Matrix that can add 34 batterys to run your 3000VA ups for 1 Hour.

The battery banks would be 6 feet high and weigh hundreds of pounds.

        A Cyberpower 1250, available from BestBuy, will give you close to one hour of battery backup. They also carry a UPS that is capable of handling two systems for over an hour is you fel so inclined. APC also makes a comparable UPS, I just liked the CyberPower's extra plugs and software.

Many 17 inch monitors use 100 watts or more. So assuming his GX300 uses 200 watts and monitor uses 100 watts and orinoco wireless module uses 24 watts then thats 324 Watts.

The Cyber power 1250 lists 1250 VA not 1250 watts.  The 1250 is Rated at 670 Watts.

When a sinusoidal voltage is applied to a purely resistive load (an
electric heater) the current has exactly the same waveform and phase.
We use "rms" to indicate the magnitude of a sine wave voltage or current
because a sinewave of 120 volts rms produces the same amount of heat in
a resistor as a steady dc 120 volts. A 120 volt rms sine wave has peak
values, plus and minus, of square root of two times 120, or plus and minus
170 volts.

For a purely resistive load, the power dissipated, in watts, is simply
volts rms times amps rms (watts == volt-amps).

If the load contains inductors (eg most motors or transformers), or
capacitors, the current either lags behind or leads the voltage.
Voltage and current are out of phase.
When the voltage reaches its peak the current is not at its peak.
If the difference in time between voltage peak and
current peak is given as an angle, theta (one complete cycle = 360
degrees), then the power is volts rms times amps rms times cosine(theta).
Volt-amps is greater than watts.

When the alternating current supply is rectified to obtain the direct
current needed by most electronics, the current waveform may be far from
sinusoidal, for example "square-wave"-like or a series of impulses.
Here the power must be determined by calculating the product of the
instantaneous voltage and current, and integrating the product over a full
cycle. Watts will generally not be equal to volts times amps.

So, in sizing a UPS, make sure that the total load requires fewer watts,
AND fewer volt-amps than the rating of the UPS. Unfortunately, most
devices do not have labels indicating both watts and volt-amps.

This means an 1250VA UPS is rated for 670 Watts.

  I have an M990 19" and have no power issues at all and my available backup time is 58 minutes. System also includes 2-120 GB WD drives in RAID-O, two optical drives, a 750 zip drive, Radeon 9700Pro, a printer and scanner, a 300 Watt power supply and without all the hoopla; this CyberPower 1250 that I use has performed as advertised. APC makes a comparable model and it is a mattewr of choice and how much you care to spend.
