No DVD drive

I need to reinstall my OS and I have the OS CD, but I need to fix my DVD drive because it can't read CD's atm. There is a "!" mark next to the drive. I believe it says "Code 39". I have my Dell Resource CD also, but it doesn't contain the necessary drive. Where would I get the drive? I've tried looking through Dell's website. I have a Dell Dimension E521 with Philips DVD-ROM DROM6316.

Hi time4swim,

The Code 39 error is usually related to the Upper & Lower filters. Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to section 100, article 31 for the Microsoft article on the issue. (Ignore the reference to Roxio).

Best Regards

Thank you that worked, but now I'm missing some of my Cd Burning drives, but I'll just repair my OS which repairs my DVD drive now. THank you again.

Hi time4swim,

Glad to hear the article retrieved the drive and the OS install should get you back to where you wish to be. Have a good weekend.

Best Regards
