Optiplex Gx110 not recognizing hardware setup change

I am attempting to put two cd-rw's on ide 2. My hardrive is on ide1 with no other device, and with this setup, nothing boots. My previous setup was harddrive and Acer 32x10x40 cdrw BOTH on ide1, with no apparent problems. I have heard of problems with putting new cd drives on gx110's. Please give me instructions as to how to setup.

Place both Optical drives on the Secondary IDE channel (what you are calling IDE2).
Make sure both drives are jumpered as Cable Select.  Enter the Set-up (BIOS) and make
sure both devices are enabled there.

But why won't the bios recognize that there is a harddrive on ide 1, with no other devices, except the 2 cdrw's on ide 2?

I have yet to set the cdrws to cable select. Never thought of that. Thanks!

PS: Bios is A02

The hard drive should also be jumpered as cable Select and located
on the end of the cable.  Check in the BIOS that it is the only device
enabled on that IDE channel.  Where you had the  optical drive with it
should now be disabled on that channel.
