Andy:

The drive should have come with a driver disc and complete instructions. Normally, you install USB drivers for the device, then connect the drive, then partition and format.

The drive did come with a disk but it is only required if you are running windows 98.

The instructions tell you to open Run and type FDISK which i have done but this only allows you to partition my c drive and not they external?

The main problem is that i can use the external HD on my Dell laptop Win2000 , but when i connect it to my desktop Win ME it does not see the HD in MY COMPUTER but the unplug icon is displayed on the lower toolbar. and will let you unplug the external HD from the icon.

cheers Andy...

Use the instructions that pertain to Win 98. What you have done (I believe) is to partition as NTFS, which Win ME cannot read.
