Philips DVD8631 AGAIN!!
I apologize for this message yet I purchased my pc Dimension 5100 from Dell very recently in Istanbul, Turkey. I'm appalled by the fact that Dell is still insisting on using such a terrible device particularly after getting so many complaints.
My DVD/ CD writer just never works never did! I tried all of the driver, chipset updates, literally whole nine yards that there was on these forums.
My PC is still under warranty, unfortunatly "warranties" have different meaning then in the States or anywhere else in Turkey...
Any suggestions? (besides dump Philips DVD8631 and buy a new one on your own)
Thank you...

Berkin:
I'll give you two things to try. First, see this recent post describing one forum member's success in fixing the CD burning wizard.
Also see How to troubleshoot issues that occur when you write data to a CD-R or CD-RW optical disc in Windows XP.
Again, the more detail when you post back, the more likely I or someone else can suggest where to go from here.

Absolutely NOT! XP Burning is part of the OS and has nothing to do with any software on the PC.
You have not stated what firmware version you are using?
What version of Roxio is on that PC? – 5.3.5 is hit or miss on XP w/SP2.
Does the burner show any errors in Device Manager?
The more details you supply will lead to a conclusion much faster.

Based on the error message and your search, you do not have Roxio software installed. The Roxio mentioned is part of the XP OS, licensed by MS. It is limited to burning CDs only.
However there must be some burning software installed and I am guessing that it is Sonic's. I would suggest disabling or removing the DLA portion.
I hope Dell will get back with you and fix you up with a different drive. At this point I wouldn't have any confidence in the Philips either!
