Please insert a recordable dvd

Question

GRRRR...I have been on-line with Dell chat 3 times for this issue. After burning a dvd with Sonic, I insert my blank into the drive (have tried 3 types now) and it keeps popping out the dvd telling me to insert a recordable disc.   I have no problems using the drive to burn cd's. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. I have updraded my dvd's.  Any suggestions? My computer is only 2 months old. I was able to copy dvd's for about the first month and now it does this.

I do not have the definative answer. However, please look in the Device Manager
and post the Brand and Model of drive. What brand and format of DVD media are
you using? Were you using the same ones when you were able to burn?

Ok, the drive is:   dvd+/-RW 16x IDE Philips   Does that help ????

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive already with Dell Chat. It burns cd's. Dvd's are the issue. And no I am not using the same kind per Dell Chat.

Now when I put a blank in it pops up "format with DLA" and I do, but once I copy the original dvd and it prompts me to put in the blank and I do, it pops it out giving me "please insert a recordable dvd".

Things that make me go hmmmmmmm

Do you want to format the DVD? Once you do it is only good to Drag-and-Drop
files to it. After formatting, it will not be recognized as a recordable disc.
Disable DLA and see if things get better ............

- Click the Start button
- Double-click on the My Computer icon
- In the My Computer window, right click on the CD device then choose Properties
- On the CD Drive Properties screen, click on the DLA tab, then remove the checkmark from
Enable DLA on your drives
- Click the OK button, then restart computer

Please look in the Device Manager and post the Brand and Model of drive.

I dumped Sonic and that solved many problems.
It conflicted with some games and I never got it burn either.

Try a real burning/authoring program like Roxio or Nero.
Problems solved and many more features and ease of use.

If you only do light burning, good luck on getting Sonic to work, its free and worth about as much in my book.

Thanks....I did just that. I ordered the new burn software right from Dell. I figured out it was the program and not the computer when I could still burn from Windows Media Player. Only took me a month and a lot of headaches, etc. Hopefully others will read this and ditch it before they go through all that....

I just got my new xps 400 and hate the burning program i cant burn dvds and i have nero from my other computer but it wont reconize the dvd drive. so im lost. so upset im ready to send the whole thing back.

I could copy 'dvd's' on my old computer just fine with nero and another program which i cant state in here . I loved it. Got this one and it really stinks. Its supposed to be a media computer, ha ha .

Its a mess, isn't it ? I've been on Dell Chat a minimum of 4 times, plus a phone call and numerous message board posts before I figured out it was the software. I just ordered the Roxio East Media Creator 8 right from Dell. I'll keep you posted on how it works. A shame though had to spend more money on something because what came with the computer doesn't work !!!   :smileymad:
