In his experience after the uninstallation he lost his optical drives in My Computer and there was an error in device manager.
I advised him to do the following:
Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Now delete the keys:
LowerFilters and UpperFilters in the right pane.
NB only one key may be present but still delete it.
Now reboot and your optical drive should function again.
NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software.
He has reported back saying that he is leaving it till a later time when he has more time on his hands.
Can I advise you that the roxio which came with your Plextor is more than likely tied to that Plextor make of burner so that when you install it on your laptop, it will not see your original CD burner as a burner.
If you want both burners to be seen by your operating system then you will have to buy a retail/OEM version copy be it roxio or Nero!
