Possible HD crash

Hello,
Right to the problem. Don't know if its the HD or not. My system turns on, but no video at all. My HD light doesn't come on at all. But, the power light comes on. I've taken out the battery and ran the AC plug straight to the laptop. Still does nothing but what I've already explained. Since the HD light doesn't come on, that's what makes me believe that's the problem.

Thanks in advance

Remove the hard drive. If the system posts to a BIOS error, you know it's the problem

If it doesn't, you've got another issue - video card, mainboard, etc.

What model is this, and how old? Is the LED on the power supply on?

Is there any activity at all? Flashing LEDs?

Reseat the battery, RAM, drives, and any cards. Check the AC adapter. If the LED is ON, it's OK.

If it still won't boot, the system board is faulty; at $400-500 to replace out of warranty, a new system is in order.

This is an Inspirion 1150. Only the power LED stays on. The battery LED will flash twice and the CD-ROM drive light will light like its check for something. But, the HD light doesn't come on and no video.

thanks

I've done what you suggested. It booted up to the Dell screen and then froze. I then re-done what you've suggested and its back to nothing.

Given the model history, I'd bet you have a dying system board. And if it's out of warranty, given the cost of replacement ($400+), start shopping for a new notebook.
