Problem Running PC Restore

I have a Dell Dimension 5150. The computer was having problems so I decided to run PC Restore. After seeing the Dell logo, I pressed Ctrl+F11. It asked me twice to confirm that it will overwrite the hard drive and data will be loss. It ran the PC Restore, unfortunately at the end it said that it was unsuccessful. So I went online and found Dan Goodell's very helpful website. I ran dsrfix and saved a dump file (below). The dsrfix found no errors or alerts. I tried to save the mbr, but it said, "Problem saving MBR sector." I tried to restore the mbr, it won't restore. Please help. Thank you!

Thank you for replying. Yes. I tried e-mailing Dan but my e-mail bounced back. I tried dsrfix, mbrsaver, and manually restoring the Ghost image. When I manually restored the Ghost image, it gave me an internal error 36000. I also tried to search the internet for an answer. All to no avail. I think I've finally given up. I will manually reformat the hard drive, but will keep the PC Restore partition just in case someone has a resolution to my problem in the future. Thank you, again.

Several things may be worng here. The hard drive may be failing or failed enough that the restore will not go on properly. The drive may be infected with virus or spyware. The restore image may have gotten corrupted.

 

So first run the Dell diagnostics on the hard drive. Then run Windows chkdsk on the hard drive from the Recovery console to check for errors and damaged sectors. Then run Ghost image verifier on the restore image.

 

If everything checks out ok delete the Operating System partition not just format it. be very careful here making sure not to delete the utility or recovery partition. Then try to run the Dell restore.
