Problems with my DVD Rom (Samsung) - Read errors
Hi,
First of all, sorry for my english. :smileysad:
I have just purchased a Dimension 8400 with a DVD rom (Samsung SD-616E) + CD writer (unknown manufacturer).
Unfortunately, I got problem with my Samsung.
When I want to transfer a file from my DVD reader to my hard disk , I often get errors.
For example in the case of a zip file, it is not possible to extract the content of the file because it is damaged. In the case of a game, installation is aborted because of errors in the cab files or others.
Is my Samsung out of order ? I have updated the firmware, without success.
With my CD writer I have no problem !

If the disk works fine on your cd-rom but fails on your DVD that would seem to indicate that there is a problem with the drive itself. Is this a frequent problem that you are having with multiple disks?

Yes I have the problem with multiple CDs, only with Samsung DVD reader.

Hi Philippe,
Please click on the CD/RW link in post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 17, At times after a firmware some drives revert to PIO mode rather than DMA.
If this does not help, same CD/RW link, Section 12, article 3 from Dell-Stephen, if it fails this test, please contact Dell bye phone, state all the things you have tried including Stephen`s article. More than likely Dell will replace the drive if under warranty.
