Quicken Backup to CD
New Dell Dimension 4600 with Sonic software. Trying to make Quicken backup to CD. I can make a data disc, but cannot write to the disc from Quicken. Dragging Quicken files to the disc doesn't work. Thanks.

You will have to save the Quicken file to the hard drive and then copy that file from the hard drive. Many (most) programs will nto write to a CD. Even the Windows backup program will not backup to a CD.
A word of caution, using RW discs. Do not have your "only copy" of data on an RW disc. They have been known to lose format or data. After being bitten 3 times, I no longer use RW discs. If I have data that's important enough to be backed up, I use a CD-R. Even at 25 or even 50 cents each if the data is important, that is a small price to pay for the backup (actually I buy CD-R's in bulk when they are on sale and usually get them for less than 10 cents each).

Hi Zane,
The following Microsoft is suppose to address this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];316415
Also, if you do a Google Search on your question: "Dragging Quicken files to CD-R disc doesn't work"
you should get a number of relevant hits.
Best Regards

I just got my Dimension 4600 and had the same problem. I used sonic to reformat a rw cd and then quicken backed up to it successfully. Have not tried writing over it yet. I did restore using the backup to on my old dell and quicken accepted the cd and restored it properly.
The formatting takes about 45 minutes.
