RAID bootup shows RED error message. How do I fix it?

Question

When I boot up during the RAID BIOS screen I see a RED error message on one of my RAID disks. How do I fix this problem? The message says 'Error Occurred (0)'   -Nathan

Replace the failed drive. If it's RAID 1 you should be able to go into setup, break the RAID array and boot the system. If it's RAID 0 you'll need to replace the drive and reload everything from scratch; RAID 0 has no redundancy.

I found out how to fix it. I downloaded Intel Matrix Storage Manager from Intel's web site. It is software that installs within XP (ie, it's not a BIOS flash). Once the software is installed I opened it and then right-clicked on the Array icon and selected the 'Reset error' box. (I'm typing this from memory, so forgive me if it's not 100% accurate.)   Anyway, it worked and now my computer runs much faster again and the red warning is now green and not a warning at all. Is the Intel Matrix Storage Manager the same as the Intel Application Accelerator RAID edition? I'm in the process of rebuilding my XPS and it was initially configured with RAID 0. I've reconfigured it to RAID 1 and installed XP w/SP1. At this point everything is working and moving along. Last night I installed XP SP2 and during the reboot, after the SP2 installation, I'm getting an 'error occurd' (without the 'e') on one of the drives. The Intel Application Accelerator RAID application indicates that the 1st drive has failed. The ABCD lights on the back of the desktop are all green. There is no indication of a hard drive failure. Does the Intel Matrix Storage Manager have an option to 'correct' the issue or do I simply need to delete the RAID array, recreate it and re-install XP w/SP1? PS At this point I'm not worried about data loss because I have all my files backed up on an external drive. Thanks!

From what I remember - it's been a LOOOONG time - the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software has a way to correct it. I believe that once the software is running, you right-click on the failed drive and there is some option to reset it. Once that is done, do a restart and verify that it has been corrected. Sorry I can't be more specific, it's been too long, but that's what I remember. :) Good luck!

I just tried to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager and it said I did not meet the minimum requirements.  I guess I stuck with Intel Application Accelerator RAID edition which doesn't have an option to reset the RAID.  I'm calling Dell's support to see what they suggest.   My initial thought was to delete the RAID 1 array and create a new RAID 1 array and re-install XP w/SP1 and cross my fingers that failure message goes away.   Thanks Nathan

This fix worked for me. You have to make sure you are downloading the correct program for your chipset. After installing the software, right click on the failed drive and then reset. Reboot your computer. You should have green normal indications during the boot process.
