Reboot / Keyboard not right

I recently dumped my drive and restarted from fresh (xp dim 2400).
Now ive noticed the @ sign has moved from the right of the keyboard to above number 2 and " has moved to where @ should be.
Also # has replaced the pound sign, DONT ask me where this is hiding now!
Any ideas?

Are you saying that wheh you press these keys, the output is wrong?

Normally, the @ sign is the same as the no. 2 key, only you have to press the SHIFT key to get it. While " is at the left of the Enter key, you also need to press the shift key to get it. # is at no. 3.

My british pound sign has gone from above 3 now its a #.
The @ which was 2 left from return is now ".
And 2 which should have " above it now has @.

Is this a european keyboard?
Now noticed the euro sign has gone from alt-Gr+4.

You have to dig deep in the Regional and Language Options control panel to get everything set up correctly for English-UK. Click every tab and button you find in that control panel and make sure the settings are correct. If the UK keyboard isn't listed in the box when you get to Languages (tab)>Details (button) screen, click Add, change region at the top and select correct keyboard from the list. When you're back at Languages(tab)>Details(button) screen, make sure you highlight the correct keyboard in the box and click OK back to previous screen.

Don't know why MS had to make this sooooo complicated. :(

When you re-installed, you probably selected the default keyboard (US) It sounds as if you have an English(United Kingdom) keyboard. You will have to go into Control Panel, Regional settings and add the proper keyboard, switch to it, and then delete the US layout.
