Reinstalling Windows SATA Drivers - Please Help!

I have wiped my hd on my dell dimension 5000 and need to reinstall windows, i have an sata drive and the windows install cd wont recognise it. I think i need some drivers for the sata drive, can i get them from the dell site? Can i burn them to a cd or do i need a floppy. I dont have a floppy drive....please help!

There is no such thing as a special sata driver.  You need to partition and format the drive before windows recognizes it.  The windows cd should have give you this option.  Else you can go get seagates install utility (it works with any manufactures drive) to try and get the computer to recognize the drive before installing windows.

Unless Dell systems are different, there are drivers for SATA before Windows will recognize them.  They must be loaded by pressing the F6 key when setup asks if you need to load any controllers....and you have to do this using a normal floppy attached to an IDE controller.  A USB floppy will not work.

you dont need any special sata driver because sata operation is already supported by system.

try this first before you install the OS:

1) Enter the BIOS setup.
2) Use the Down-Arrow key to scroll down to Drives and press to expand this menu.
2) Scroll down to select "SATA Operation" and press to enter the menu.
3) Select "RAID Autodetect / ATA Mode."
4) Save changes and exit the BIOS.

this will set you system to autodetect any sata drive.

boot into the OS disk and reinstall the OS normally.
