Reseating optical drive?

Hello, I am having problems with the DVD drive on my Inspiron 640m Core 2 Duo Processor T5600. DVDs are recognised but when I try to play them I get a black screen and nothing happens. When I try play them in WMP it tells me there is a copyright problem. I am still in warranty (I think) so I contacted Dell support. They have told me to 'reseat the drive' using this link: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins640m/en/SM/opdrive.htm#wp1035371 I am not sure how to do this--I should point out my computer skills are pretty basic :( Does it involve taking apart my laptop??

could you check under properties of your drive in device manager to see that you have the correct region set for your drive.

Hey, thanks for replying. My laptop is not currently with me but I'm pretty sure the region is set to Europe, I don't know how it would have changed--I've only ever watched region 2 DVDs on it and last week it worked fine. Also it hasn't been damaged, dropped, etc. One thing I noticed last night, I was double checking to see if Windows XP recognised the DVD, and it did, but when I double clicked on the DVD title the files displayed ended in either .BUP, .IFO and .VOB. It told me Windows could not recognise the file type.

EDIT: I have been told my optical drive is being replaced so here's hoping this solves the problem. I personally doubt it will because if it was the drive that was faulty, how would DVDs have worked up until now? Anyway thanks for your help.
