Samsung 616 DVD Decoder

I installed a new operating system (windows xp, my computer came with ME when I bought it). Afterwards my DVD player no longer can play dvd's. Apparently I have no DVD decoder. I'm not sure where I can get my decoder back from. I downloaded the driver for my DVD player from support.dell.com, and booted off the disk I put the driver on. It seemed to say it installed the driver, and the computer definately recognizes the D: drive as a DVD drive, however interactual still says I have no decoder. Apparently the driver and decoder are more seperate than I thought. How do I get my decoder back? I don't seem to see it on any of the CD's that came with my computer, although I guess I may have lost one... I could use some direction, thanks for any help.

Hi Callampen,
Unfortunately many of the DVD player software designed for Win 9x and Me will not work with Windows XP as well as Windows 2000. I might consider checking the Web site of the software that shipped with your Dell to see if they happen to have an update. Click on the CD/RW gif in my post and scroll to Section 6-3, article 18 from one of our Regulars, Big Brother, the majority of software that works with Win 2000 will work with XP. You may have to break down and purchase software compatible with Windows XP, one of the pitfalls of upgrading an OS.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
