SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SN-324S - LOST
Hi all,
I've just installed a Samsung CDRW/DVD combi drive (SN-324S) to my Optiplex GX150 SFF. When first installed my BIOS and OS (Win2k Pro) found the drive with no problems. I installed Nero Burning rom software and burned a few CD's to test, All ok. I then loaded my DVD codecs & set the region to UK (2) and installed a DVD player application to enable DVD playback . This is where my problems seem to begin.
The first problem I encountered was that my system started locking up each time I loaded a CD (except audio CD's). Things got progressivly worse, as Win2k stopped finding my drive (it wasn't listed under the device manger) unless I forced it to search for new hardware. When I did, it listed it as already installed and working ok, which is strange to say the least. Then it gets worse, my BIOS finally decided it wasn't going to recognise the drive and started throwing up errors during boot, stating that hard disk0 not found.
This is what I've done already to try and cure this annoying problem all with no joy.
1. Removed upper + lower filters in the registry.
2. Removed IDE controlers in win2k and reinstalled them.
3. Cleared my NVRAM
4. Ensured that in the BIOS my CDRW device is set to AUTO. Although the BIOS was originally finding my new CDRW.
5. Re-installed my old CD-rom which works perfectly, both in the BIOS and Win2k then re-installed the CDRW only to have the same errors occur.
6. Removed Codecs, Nero and any other software I installed and re-installed CDRW.
I searched dells site from top to bottom and can find no firmware updates for my drive. I've also tried Samsungs support site to find that they also list no drivers/firmware for my 324S model.
Please, please can someone offer me some advice, I really don't know what to do next.
Many thanks in advance
MM.
